Periodontitis, Gingivitis or Gum Disease

Gum disease, gingivitis and periodontitis are the leading cause of tooth loss among adult patients and some patients lose otherwise healthy teeth because they become loose and mobile due to this condition. Yet with timely diagnosis, treatment, good oral hygiene habits and regular 6 monthly visits to your dentist- it is something that can be prevented or kept under control.

Gum disease is often a gradual process and often goes undetected for some time.  Symptoms include bleeding and sore gums, swelling and bad breath.

Gum disease can be caused by poor diet, smoking and alcohol, ageing, drugs, medication or poor oral hygiene.

You may not know that you have gum disease. This is why regularly seeing Dr Ilic for a check-up is a great oral health strategy. When he examines your gums, he is always looking for the early signs of periodontal disease. If caught early, the right gum therapy and home care will minimise gum disease and bone loss.

We are very proud of the fact that we are only one of a few practices in NSW which has incorporated Ozone Therapy into our treatment of Periodontal Disease. We use it in the form of :

  • Ozonated water for irrigating the periodontal pockets and as a pre, during and post treatment mouth rinse
  • Ozone in the form of  gas to help eliminate any remaining bacteria, viruses and fungi  in the pockets and gums.

We also recommend patients actively continue with their treatment at home with our Perio Maintenance program. If you have any concerns at all about your gum health, bleeding gums, bad breath or mobile teeth, please give us a call.
