Who should do this course?

Anyone who is interested in working as a dental assistant, looking for placement or is planning to enrol in the Certificate 3 in Dental Assisting.

What is the duration of the course?

The course will run for 3 days per week over a 4 week period totalling 60 hours.

It includes: 4 theory sessions and 8 practical sessions – starting at 9 am and finishing at 3 pm

Wednesdays are for theory and Thursdays/Fridays or Mondays/Tuesdays are for observation and practical skills.

  • Dental Assistant’s Role and Four-handed dentistry
  • OHS in the Dental Surgery
  • Dental Materials, Instruments and procedures
  • Sterilisation and Infection Control
  • Customer Service and Verbal Skills
  • Job seeking skills - including practice interviews, writing a cover letter and resume

How much does the course cost?

The course fee is $990 inclusive of GST. It is payable before the course begins and is non-refundable once the course has started.

What does the course fee include?

The course fee includes all course materials and a scale/clean appointment, filling or impression taking appointment for the student or a family member. This appointment will be done during the course.

1 week of placement is optional after the course. For this placement opportunity, students will be assessed at the completion of the course and will be required to be here from opening to closing for 4 days of the week.

Is this an accredited course?

No, this course is not an accredited course. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued at the end of the course and a reference can be given.

Will I be able to get a position as a dental assistant after completing this course?

This course is an introduction to dental assisting and is designed to give students an idea of what dental assisting is all about in addition to a head start in the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence needed when they start looking for work/placement as a dental assistant. Some dental surgeries will employ dental assistants without Certificate 3 and others will not.

Success in finding and keeping a position is largely dependent on a student’s attitude, communication skills, work ethic and a range of other factors. We will give you feedback at the completion of the course and will also assist you with interview preparation, writing a cover letter and resume.
